Pumpkin-Spice Hemp Creamer

I have started making my own seasonings and dressings at home this past year and finally decided to tackle my coffee creamer. I went from half and half to store bought natural nut creamers but even they contain additives that aren’t always healthy.

So I did what I do best and I researched and found a bunch of easy recipes online for cashew and almond creamer but was excited to come across one made with unshelled Hemp Seeds.

Hemp Seeds are rich in plant protein and polyunsaturated fats (Omega 3&6). If you are like me, I don’t get nearly as much Omega’s as I should. This creamer is an easy way to supplement some protein and omegas into the diet.

Since it is Fall and Pumpkin Spice is everywhere, this non-dairy recipe should take you to your happy place if you are a pumpkin spice lover. If not, don’t worry, just omit the pumpkin puree and pumpkin spice and add in pure vanilla or peppermint extract, or cinnamon…whatever your heart desires. This recipe really is a blank canvas for you to create an amazing creamer that tastes good and is good for you.

Enjoy!

This non-dairy creamer is full of protein and omega's 3 and 6 with the addition of Hemp Seeds. You can use this recipe with almonds, cashews or unsweetened shredded coconut but you will need to allow up to 2 hours to soak the nuts or coconut to ensure a creamier texture.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Shelled Hemp Seeds

  • 2 cups Water

  • 8 oz Pure Pumpkin Puree

  • 11/2 TBS Pumpkin Pie Spice

  • 2-3 TBS Coconut Sugar or Date Sugar (can substitute agave, honey, monkfruit sweetener, maple syrup, ect.)

  • 1tsp Madagascar Pure Vanilla Bean Paste (can substitute 1tsp vanilla paste or vanilla extract)

  • Pinch of Salt

Directions

  • Soak Hemp Seeds in one cup water for up to 2 hours *
  • Strain Hemp Seeds and place in blender* with 2 cups of water and blend for approx. 1 minute.
  • Add Pumpkin Puree, Pumpkin Pie Spice, Coconut Sugar, Vanilla Bean Paste and Pinch of Salt and blend until everything is combined.
  • Pour in glass container and refrigerate.

Notes

  • I have used a Vitamix and a Mr. Beast blender and have not noticed any difference in creaminess.
  • *Hemp Seeds can have a strong flavor, I have used ¼ c unsweetened coconut combined with ¼ c hemp seeds for a milder tasting creamer (soak both together for up to 2 hours).
  • Shelled Hemp Seeds do not need to be soaked but I generally soak them between 1 and 2 hours to a creamier consistency as hemp seed creamer can have a gritty texture. Another option is to strain the creamer through cheesecloth if you do not like the consistency of the creamer.
  • Don't like Pumpkin-Spice? No problem, this is a very basic recipe...omit the pumpkin spice and add more Vanilla Bean Paste for a Vanilla Creamer.
